Protesters blocked Rustaveli Avenue in Tbilisi.
Protests have resumed in Georgia: about a thousand protesters blocked Rustaveli Avenue in the center of Tbilisi. Initially, the participants of the rally, holding flags of Georgia, the European Union, and Ukraine, gathered near the parliament building. After about an hour, they moved onto Rustaveli Avenue, blocking traffic. The police are not responding to the situation.
The protests began in Tbilisi on Saturday, October 4, after the ruling party "Georgian Dream" announced its victory. The participants of the rally called on citizens to seize government institutions, declaring that they would first occupy the president's residence. At one point, an enraged crowd broke through the iron fence and stormed into the courtyard of the Orbeliani Palace. The protesters began throwing stones at the building, and special forces had to use water cannons, tear gas, and pepper spray.
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, stated that the participants of the unrest in Tbilisi are being managed by foreign intelligence services.
