The goal of the protests is to overthrow the government of Georgia.
Mass protests have resumed in Tbilisi. Protesters are storming the Orbeliani presidential palace, throwing stones at it, demanding the keys to the building, and launching fireworks at the police.
Recently, municipal elections took place in Georgia. The opposition called them a "farce" and a "Russian special operation" and refused to participate. Later, protests began in the capital: the protesters declared the "Georgian Dream" government to have lost its legitimacy and announced the start of a "peaceful transfer of power." Member of the "United National Movement" Murta Zodelavi urged men to move towards Barataashvili Park.
The crowd approached the palace, and the protesters began to storm it. They then broke into the courtyard of the president's residence, and in response, the police used tear gas. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia stated that the rally in Tbilisi had gone beyond the law. There are reports of injuries and arrests.
After the ruling party "Georgian Dream" announced its victory, protests erupted in the capital. The main complaint of the protesters against the party is the cessation of the course towards Eurointegration. Currently, the main demand of the protesters is the resignation of the current government.
The protesters set fire to barriers in Freedom Square, which they constructed from furniture to protect against special forces. The main police forces are concentrated there. People are also throwing stones at the residence of the President of Georgia.
In response, security forces are dousing the protesters with water, and tear gas has been used near the president's residence. Georgian law enforcement continues to deploy forces to areas with the largest gatherings of people. Among the protesters, there are individuals with EU and US flags.
