Can cancer disappear on its own? A doctor spoke about rare cases of spontaneous remission

Cases where malignant tumors disappear without surgery, chemotherapy, or other special treatment do exist. However, as specialists emphasize, this happens extremely rarely — in about one in 60,000 patients.

Humanity has been searching for ways to defeat cancer for decades, yet even modern treatment methods do not always guarantee success. Nevertheless, medicine is aware of cases of so-called spontaneous remission — when a tumor decreases or completely disappears without targeted anti-tumor treatment.

Doctor Vladimir Ivashkov spoke about such rare cases. According to him, spontaneous remission occurs extremely rarely and remains one of the most mysterious topics in oncology.

"Cancer sometimes disappears on its own — without chemotherapy, without surgery. Many will say that this is impossible. But our body is indeed capable of coping with many problems — from colds and cuts to serious diseases. Cases of self-healing from cancer exist and are called spontaneous remission. It occurs in about one in 60,000 patients," the doctor noted.

According to the specialist, researchers have long noticed an intriguing pattern: some patients who experienced spontaneous remission had infectious diseases or vaccinations shortly before.

For instance, medical literature describes a case where a 78-year-old patient with leukemia entered complete remission after a smallpox vaccination. In another case, melanoma remission occurred after vaccination against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis.

One possible explanation is that infection or vaccination activates the immune system. As a result, immune cells begin to more actively recognize and attack not only the pathogens of the disease but also tumor cells.

However, scientists emphasize that this is just one of the hypotheses. There is no evidence that infections or vaccinations can cure cancer.

Moreover, spontaneous remission is sometimes observed after a biopsy or other medical interventions. According to specialists, this may be related to disrupted blood supply to the tumor, causing some cancer cells to die.

Nevertheless, the exact mechanisms of this phenomenon remain unknown. Due to the extremely small number of such cases, it is difficult for scientists to gather enough data for definitive conclusions.

Spontaneous remission remains one of the rarest and least studied phenomena in modern medicine. Despite individual documented cases, doctors emphasize that one should not rely on the spontaneous disappearance of a tumor. If cancer is suspected, it is necessary to seek medical help in a timely manner and follow the recommendations of specialists.
