Philipp Kirkorov confessed: “I tried to back out” of marriage to Alla Pugacheva

The pop king shared intimate details of his union with the Primadonna, noting the key role of the first mayor of St. Petersburg, Anatoly Sobchak, in their decision to marry.

Philipp Kirkorov candidly revealed that he initially did not intend to tie himself in marriage to Alla Pugacheva. Their union, which remained one of the most discussed topics in Russian show business for 11 years, was recently indirectly referred to by the singer herself as fictitious.

The singer recalled how the idea of marriage arose on the advice of their mutual acquaintance from St. Petersburg, Emma Lavrinovich. In 1994, during Kirkorov's tour in the Northern capital, they had dinner with the Primadonna and the city's first mayor Anatoly Sobchak when the topic of their possible wedding came up in conversation.

"We didn’t even plan to do this with Alla. I tried to back out, I made up that I didn’t have a passport. But Anatoly Sobchak arranged for the passport to arrive the next day, and it all happened at the Registry Office No. 1 on the English Embankment, thanks to Emma Vasilievna," Kirkorov shared, as reported by StarHit.

However, as Kirkorov admitted, "everything else" in their relationship "somehow didn’t work out." He clarified: "For 10 years, everything was fine, and then everything went awry." Despite this, the artist fondly and gratefully recalls the time spent with Pugacheva.

Alla Pugacheva and Philipp Kirkorov officially formalized their relationship in 1994, and their wedding took place in Jerusalem, while their divorce occurred in 2005. Even after their separation, Kirkorov consistently referred to the Primadonna as "the main woman in his life" and dedicated musical works to her.
