Breakfast for a Week: Simple Homemade Granola Recipe

Homemade granola is one of the most convenient breakfast options that can be prepared in advance. It keeps well for several days without losing flavor, and thanks to the combination with yogurt, milk, fruits, or cottage cheese, you can enjoy a new dish every day without extra effort.

Ingredients

  • rolled oats — 400 g
  • dried fruits (apricots, prunes, raisins) — 150 g
  • nuts (walnuts, almonds, hazelnuts) — 300 g
  • egg whites — 2 pcs.
  • water — 2 tbsp
  • brown sugar — 80 g (or honey to taste)

Preparing the Ingredients

Rolled Oats

Part of the oats should be slightly crushed in a blender to create a mixture of crumbs and larger pieces — this will make the granola more interesting in texture.

Dried Fruits and Nuts

Thoroughly rinse the dried fruits, dry them, and cut them into small pieces. Chop the nuts if necessary: walnuts can be chopped with a knife, while almonds and hazelnuts can be left whole.

Cooking

Mix the Base

In a bowl, lightly beat the egg whites with water until frothy. Add the nuts and dried fruits, mixing well to ensure the mixture evenly coats the ingredients — this will help the granola stick together during baking.

Add the Oats

Stir in the rolled oats and sugar (or honey), mixing gently until homogeneous.

Prepare the Baking Sheet

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread the mixture in an even thin layer.

Baking

Place the granola in a preheated oven at 180 °C for about 20 minutes. Stir once in the middle of baking to ensure even browning.

Cooling and Storage

Let the finished granola cool completely and transfer it to a glass jar or a container with a tight lid.

Tips

How to Keep it Crunchy

If the granola has softened after a few days, spread it in a thin layer on a baking sheet and warm it in the oven for 5–7 minutes at 150 °C. After cooling, it will become crunchy again.

Serving Options

Serve the granola with yogurt, milk, cottage cheese, or fresh fruits — each time the taste will be slightly different, and breakfast will not become boring.
