Roses Will Not Forgive This Mistake: Plants That Secretly Kill the Flower

Roses are considered a rather finicky crop that requires careful attention to the choice of neighbors in the flowerbed. Some plants can seriously harm the queen of the garden.

For example, large coniferous trees are not suitable for planting alongside roses: the needles acidify the soil, which is unfavorable for roses, and the dense crown creates excessive shade. Birch will also make a poor neighbor: its powerful root system actively absorbs nutrients.

Ferns and hostas are also incompatible with roses. These plants prefer shady and moist conditions, while roses need a sunnier and drier spot. As a result, one of the plants will inevitably find itself in unfavorable conditions.

Additionally, it is not advisable to plant phlox, loosestrife, and evening primrose under roses. Although they are sometimes placed in the root zone, this should not be done: their aggressive root system will actively take nutrients away from the roses.
