Scratch- and Stain-Free Acrylic: The Best Ways to Care for Your Bathtub

An acrylic bathtub is increasingly replacing metal ones in our apartments. One can argue for a long time about the pros and cons of an acrylic bathtub, but the main question remains relevant – how to care for it so that it lasts as long as possible?

Acrylic is highly wear-resistant. The surface of this material successfully repels dirt, and microorganisms do not thrive on it. Nevertheless, caring for an acrylic bathtub is necessary. We will tell you how to do it correctly:

What to Avoid When Caring for Your Bathtub?

  1. Never clean such a bathtub with laundry detergent! Other cleaning agents containing abrasive particles are also unsuitable, as they can scratch the surface and make it dull.

  2. Do not use substances like ammonia, acetone, or products containing them. Ammonia and acetone are the worst enemies of acrylic.

  3. Products containing formaldehyde or formic acid are also not suitable. If you need to remove stubborn stains, use a liquid detergent or toothpaste.

What is Useful for Cleaning an Acrylic Bathtub?

By visiting any store that sells plumbing supplies, you can purchase special products for caring for acrylic surfaces. If you prefer universal cleaning agents, remember the following rules:

  1. Wipe the surface daily with a soft cloth, applying a neutral cleaning agent.

  2. The best choice is liquid cleaning agents.

  3. The detergent should remain on the surface for a few minutes, then rinse the area with warm water.

  4. To prevent acrylic from dulling, use a wax polish and a soft cloth.

The greatest damage to an acrylic bathtub can be caused by rust. To prevent its appearance, always ensure that the taps are tightly closed. Otherwise, yellow unsightly streaks will appear on the walls. Have they already appeared? Then buy a special product designed to remove rust from acrylic surfaces. Perform preventive treatment of the bathtub surface with this product once a month.

Removing limescale is easy if you use citric acid or vinegar. Simply dissolve a packet of acid in a bathtub filled with hot water. After two hours, drain the water and rinse the bathtub with running water. Finally, take a soft cloth and dry the bathtub to avoid leaving streaks and stains on its walls.

And one more tip: do not place basins, buckets, and other heavy metal objects in your bathtub. It’s better to get a couple of plastic containers to avoid scratching the acrylic surface. When bathing a cat or another pet in the bathtub, lay down a rubber mat to protect the acrylic from sharp claws. Finally, forget about soaking laundry in the bathtub – laundry detergent and bleaching agents can cause significant damage to the surface.
