Nutritionist: “Don’t eat fresh pastries on an empty stomach!”

It is better not to eat fresh pastries, pineapples, and some salads with fresh vegetables on an empty stomach, said nutritionist Elena Solomatina.

Many foods can cause discomfort and irritation of the mucous membranes on an empty stomach. Spicy and sour dishes are often the hardest to tolerate: they increase the load on the stomach and can lead to unpleasant sensations, especially if there are already gastrointestinal diseases. Spiciness itself does not cause gastritis or ulcers, but it can exacerbate inflammation in the presence of micro-damage.

According to Solomatina, discomfort can arise from consuming acidic foods: marinades, vinegar, citrus fruits, pineapple, and papaya. The latter contain enzymes that actively break down proteins and can sometimes cause a burning sensation even in the mouth. The same effect can occur in the stomach. Fermented dairy products that have become too sour are also undesirable. This is because they irritate the mucous membrane, and beneficial bacteria do not function well in such an environment.

Sweet foods, especially carbonated drinks, are not a good idea either: sugar is quickly absorbed, sharply raises glucose levels, then stimulates insulin release, and can lead to sudden weakness and feelings of hunger.

The nutritionist added that fresh pastries are also on the list of foods that should not be eaten on an empty stomach. Due to a lack of saliva in the morning, they are poorly broken down. It is better to choose yesterday's dried bread. This also applies to coarse salads with radish, radishes, and cabbage, as fiber can additionally damage the mucous membrane. Strong broths and strong coffee on an empty stomach can also increase irritation.
