1. High Doses of Vitamin D

2. Licorice Root

The glycyrrhizic acid in licorice causes the body to retain sodium and deplete potassium. This electrolyte imbalance provokes sharp spikes in blood pressure. It is particularly dangerous to combine licorice with diuretics, as this can lead to critical potassium deficiency.

3. St. John's Wort

St. John's Wort is considered a popular natural antidepressant, but it poses a different threat for people with hypertension. This plant affects liver enzymes responsible for breaking down medication. As a result, the effectiveness of blood pressure medications, such as nifedipine or verapamil, is significantly weakened. A patient may take the prescribed medication, but it simply will not work due to the influence of the supplement.

4. Arnica

While arnica is excellent for bruises and swelling in the form of ointments, its oral intake (in tablet or drop form) is strictly not recommended. Consuming arnica can lead to serious damage to the heart muscle, cause vomiting, diarrhea, and a rapid increase in blood pressure. Experts advise limiting the use of this flower to external application on unbroken skin.

5. Bitter Orange

This supplement is often included in weight loss and sports nutrition complexes due to the presence of synephrine. This substance acts similarly to ephedrine, which has been banned due to a high risk of causing heart attacks. Bitter orange stimulates the nervous system, increases heart rate, and constricts blood vessels, posing a direct threat to people with high blood pressure.
