The winter wardrobe is the most challenging to style for many. Warmth and comfort take priority, while styles and aesthetics are often left to chance, and accessories are generally postponed until better weather and mood. The simplest way to complicate looks is to add color to them. Here are a few secrets from stylist Anna Pritchina on how to spice up your winter capsule.
Unconventional Color Combinations for Winter
Black boots, a black puffer jacket, a black bag, blue jeans, and a gray or beige sweater can be found in almost every girl's wardrobe. However, often, even if all these items are made from quality materials and have a basic trendy cut, they still look somewhat dull together. "Try adding more complex shades and combinations to your winter capsule, and even a simple set of items will come alive with character," advises the stylist.
If you love black, complement it with brighter or lighter colors: light blue, pink, beige, or rich green. Even mixing it with various shades of gray can make the monochrome look more dynamic. And by adding a bag in a bright color or with an animal print, you will complete the look.

"If you have a medium contrast appearance, meaning ash-blonde hair and a medium skin tone, use a combination of brown and cream. It looks more expensive and interesting than total black. For the boldest, outfits entirely in white, cream, and beige shades. Especially in regions with short daylight hours, light tones in winter outfits help combat gloom and stand out in a crowd," says Anna.
Another bold trick is to use different colors of the same temperature and saturation within the outfit. For example, pastel pink, light green, and butter yellow. Stylist: "Or conversely, gather all the rich colors — dark burgundy, cobalt blue, and emerald in one outfit. Even with the simplest items like jeans, a sweatshirt, and a puffer jacket, it looks interesting. And you will receive comments from friends like, 'I’m also wearing a sweater and jeans, but somehow it’s not as cool as you!'".

One Printed Item Changes Everything
Another simple color trick is to choose basic winter items with prints and 'stretch' them across other elements of the outfit. "For example, jeans can be beige with a snake print instead of blue. That’s already an accent. Black boots and a beige long-sleeve top will play together in a new way. In general, any non-solid bottoms add a touch of uniqueness to the outfit," notes our expert.
Or take a cardigan with an argyle print, for example, in brown, beige, and caramel diamonds. Pair it with brown trousers, a beige t-shirt underneath, and a caramel bag. Anna: "The same works if you have a sweatshirt with any pattern or inscription, with colors that can be found in other items. Even a puffer jacket can now be bought in floral or polka dot patterns, and you can support the color of the print with a hat and gloves. You’ll collect a million compliments.".

How Not to Wash Colored Clothes Every Day
The most popular comment on unconventional color solutions in winter is, "But I’ll be exhausted from washing this, while black is not so dirty!". "I have a few solutions for this. Firstly, choose light items made from practical materials. For example, beige trousers can be made of eco-leather or even membrane fabric. After a walk on a muddy day, you can simply wipe them with a sponge. And black knit trousers get dirty just as much as white ones. Secondly, clothing, just like shoes, can be treated with a water-repellent coating. If you do this procedure at least with the collar and cuffs of a light puffer jacket, it will last longer without needing dry cleaning," advises the stylist.
And most importantly — remember that clothes exist for you, not you for them. Even if pink winter boots get dirty or worn out over the season, it’s not a big deal if every time you step out of the house in them, you feel happy and satisfied with your look. So don’t postpone color until spring and incorporate it into your wardrobe right now.
