They become an accent, a decoration, and a way to tell about oneself without words. Wearing a watch in the traditional way (neatly on the wrist) is certainly not a mistake, but it is not the most interesting option either. Fashion experts suggest playing with the context, scale, and even the meaning of this accessory. Stylist Masha Vedernikova outlined the rules of stylish play.
Watches Over the Cuff
One of the most noticeable tricks is to wear a watch over the sleeve. On thin knitwear, a long-sleeve shirt, a turtleneck, or on the cuff of a shirt. "It looks a bit provocative and very modern, as if the accessory has been pulled out of its usual logic. Large watches with a clear dial look especially impressive, turning into a noticeable decoration," explains the expert.
Watches Over a Blazer or Thick Sweater
An even more brutal (and yet very feminine, strangely enough) and deliberate option is to wear a watch over the sleeve of a blazer, coat, oversized sweater, or even a fur coat, turning the accessory into an intentional stylistic gesture. This trick immediately adds character and a touch of irony to the look, as if the rules no longer matter. Watches with a large case and a contrasting strap look especially impressive, as they do not get lost on dense fabric.
Watches as Part of Layered Accessories
A solo performance for watches is no longer mandatory. They are combined with bracelets, chains, and leather straps. "The main rule is different textures and different rhythms. The watch becomes the center of the composition, around which the entire architecture of accessories (and the look as a whole, since we're at it) is built. And it looks not overloaded, but thought-out, if a unified logic is maintained, and the entire outfit is kept in a minimalist style," says the stylist.
Contrast Instead of Matching
Finally, watches no longer have to match the look. On the contrary, contrast is valued. Sports watches with evening dresses, classic ones with relaxed casual outfits, men's models in women's looks. This gap between expectation and reality makes the look lively and memorable. Watches cease to be a logical addition and become a fashion statement and an ironic accessory.
