Coffee can provoke unexpected weight gain if combined with certain products. An endocrinologist named five products that are not recommended to add to coffee.

Even a small cup of cappuccino with low-fat milk and no sugar contains about 50 kcal. Consuming two complex coffee drinks a day (for example, coffee with milk and syrup) can total over 2000 kcal. To gain one kilogram of weight, about 7700 kcal is required, so regular coffee drinks with additives can quickly affect your figure.
Dr. Pavlova recommends avoiding adding the following to coffee:
- milk;
- sugar and syrups;
- whiskey and cognac;
- ice cream and condensed milk;
- honey.
Cow's milk is better replaced with plant-based options — soy, coconut, oat, or almond milk. “One in four people poorly digests cow's milk and experiences bloating. Moreover, milk can easily mask the taste of poor-quality coffee,” explained Pavlova.
Honey is also not a safe alternative to sugar, as it consists of pure fructose, which increases appetite. To sweeten coffee without harming your figure, the doctor advises using sugar substitutes — stevia or sucralose with erythritol.
To enhance the drink's benefits and add an interesting flavor, a slice of lemon can be added: “Lemon juice fights advanced glycation end products — the main factors of aging. They form in coffee due to the roasting of the beans,” noted the expert.
