Useful Reminder: Examinations Women Need to Undergo Annually

Our body is remarkably resilient yet very vulnerable. It can endure monstrous overloads, lack of sleep, stress, and hormonal swings for a long time, and then suddenly, quietly, and unnoticed fail. This is why attentive self-care has a simple rule — do not wait for symptoms, but regularly check how things are at a deeper level. Annual examinations are not about hypochondria or seeking problems, but about control, peace of mind, and a sense of inner stability. Therapist Anna Terentyeva discussed the basic tests that every woman should undergo at least once a year, even if nothing is bothering her.

General Blood Test and Biochemistry

This is the foundation of all diagnostics. A general blood test indicates inflammatory processes, hidden infections, hemoglobin levels, and indirectly — the state of the immune system. "Biochemistry shows the functioning of the liver, kidneys, pancreas, glucose levels, cholesterol, and other metabolic markers. These indicators provide a general understanding of the body's condition and where to focus attention first," says the doctor.

Ultrasound of the Pelvic Organs

One of the most important examinations for women's health. Ultrasound helps to timely detect cysts, fibroids, inflammatory processes, changes in the endometrium, and ovaries. Many of these conditions can be asymptomatic for a long time and are discovered accidentally, while regular ultrasound examinations allow for monitoring changes over time and avoiding extreme measures.

Pap Test and HPV Analysis

A smear for oncocytology or Pap test is a key screening for early changes in cervical cells. "Together with the human papillomavirus test, it shows the true picture of the risk of developing serious diseases. This is one of the few cases where a simple and quick procedure can literally save a life. It is especially important not to postpone this analysis after the age of 25 and when having a steady partner," emphasizes the therapist.

Ultrasound or Mammography of the Breasts

The method is chosen depending on age, but the essence is the same — regular monitoring of breast tissue condition. Even with good health and no complaints, it is necessary to track any changes in structure (oncology, unfortunately, is becoming increasingly common among younger women). The earlier a deviation is detected, the easier and gentler the treatment process is. Self-examination at home is also important, no doubt, but it can never replace professional diagnostics.

Hormonal Profile as Indicated

The female body is closely linked to the hormonal system, and even minor deviations can affect mood, cycle, weight, skin, libido, and energy levels. It is important to periodically check the levels of thyroid hormones, prolactin, FSH, LH, estradiol, and progesterone. This is especially relevant if there are cycle irregularities, sudden weight changes, chronic fatigue, or difficulties with conception. For those approaching perimenopause, this is also not a formality, but an important tool for understanding one's own processes.
