What Fabric Conditioner Does

But it is precisely these components that can worsen the quality of the fabric in a number of cases — here are the materials that should not be used with fabric conditioner.
Which Items Are Harmful to Use with Fabric Conditioner
1. Silk
Silk is an extremely delicate material. According to Fi Dang, the director of a cleaning company, fabric conditioner reduces its breathability and makes the fabric more prone to staining.
2. Non-flammable Fabrics
Fire-resistant materials are often used to make children's sleepwear and some curtains. Fabric conditioner destroys the chemical components that provide the self-extinguishing properties of the fabric, stripping it of its protective qualities.
3. Water-repellent Clothing
Coats, jackets, and down jackets with water-repellent coatings will lose their properties when washed with fabric conditioner — the material will start to absorb water.
4. Microfiber
This fabric is used in sportswear and towels. Fabric conditioner "sticks" to synthetic fibers, gradually reducing their ability to absorb moisture.
5. Sweaters Made of Wool, Cashmere, and Mohair
Although such items may seem to require softening, fabric conditioner makes them less fluffy and worsens their ability to retain heat.
