As soon as autumn arrives, many begin actively restoring their skin after the hot summer days. Booking an appointment with a cosmetologist and purchasing home care products is a "sacred" duty for every self-respecting woman. However, in our attempts to please the skin, we often forget the principle of "do no harm." Cosmetologist Yana Antochi listed procedures that are highly undesirable to perform in the autumn months.
Scrubbing
The skin, already stressed from summer, is unlikely to appreciate attempts to strip away its protective layer and invade its micro-pores for cleansing. "Under no circumstances should excessive amounts of acids or products with active whitening and peeling be used," warns the expert.
Deep Laser Resurfacing
Even if a cosmetologist insists on this method of skin renewal, it is better to wait. In addition to peeling, you may end up with inflammation and pigmentation that will be visible on your face until next spring.
Microneedling Therapy
This also involves micro-trauma, which is better performed when the skin is fully hydrated, not dehydrated, and definitely not after the swimming and sunbathing season or a trip to the sea.
Photoprocedures (IPL)
While there is residual tanning, it is better not to undergo the procedure due to the risk of burns and pigmentation. After a tanning bed session, the method will also not yield favorable results. We should wait about 3–4 weeks until the tan completely fades.
Deep Chemical Peels
This includes yellow peels (retinoic), phenolic, and others that involve aggressive effects.
In short, all procedures that cause even minimal stress to the skin should be crossed off the list of must-dos for now. We should act more gently and gradually, monitoring the reaction. Yana Antochi reminded that autumn care should include gentle peeling options.
"Before starting superficial to medium peels, you need to understand what type of skin you have and how it may react. If there are allergic reactions, lipid mantle disorders, or dermatitis, these acids should not be used under any circumstances," explains the cosmetologist. We should not forget about gentle cleansing and moisturizing. These care steps are seasonal and essential for any skin type.
