Danger in the Kitchen: Why You Shouldn't Eat from Cracked Dishes

Dishes are a familiar part of everyday life, without which cooking and eating are unimaginable. However, using cracked or chipped plates and mugs can be not only unaesthetic but also dangerous.

1. Risk of Injury

Chips and cracks create sharp edges that can easily cause cuts. Additionally, small fragments can end up in food or drink — in this case, there is a risk of damaging the mucous membranes of the mouth or gastrointestinal tract.

2. Leaching of Lead from Glaze

Some types of dishware are coated with glaze containing lead — to provide shine and durability. When the surface is damaged, toxic substances begin to leach into food. Regular consumption of food from such dishes can lead to lead poisoning and health problems.

3. Bacterial and Mold Growth

Micro-cracks and chips are an ideal environment for bacteria and mold spores to accumulate. Even when washing dishes with hot water, these microorganisms can persist and enter the body, causing poisoning and inflammation.

4. Superstitions and Omens

In folk beliefs, cracked dishes symbolize discord and misfortune. It is believed that food from such utensils attracts negative energy, and in a home where broken dishes are kept, quarrels and financial difficulties may arise.
