Why You Shouldn't Reboil Water for Tea and Coffee

Many are familiar with the habit of boiling water several times for making beverages. Experts warn: it's better not to do this.

Main Reasons

  1. Accumulation of Impurities
When boiling, some water evaporates, and the concentration of mineral salts and other compounds increases. The sediment at the bottom of the kettle contains salts and modified hydrogen compounds, which over time can negatively affect kidney health.

  2. Change in Taste
Reboiling makes the water have a metallic or burnt taste, which worsens the flavor of tea and coffee.

  3. Formation of Harmful Compounds
Tap water contains chlorine. When boiled, it can interact with organic substances, forming potentially carcinogenic compounds.

Recommendations

  • Use fresh water each time.
  • Place the ingredients in a thermos or mug first, then pour in the water and let the liquid "breathe" oxygen for 2–3 minutes.
  • Do not add fresh water to the remnants of already boiled water.
  • Before boiling, let the tap water stand for several hours in an enamel container.
