This small city is an open-air museum, featuring palaces, ancient fortress walls, churches, and narrow streets.
The capital of Malta, Valletta, has won the title of the most beautiful capital in the world according to Condé Nast Traveller magazine. Remarkably, this small city took first place in the ranking, surpassing tourist giants such as Lisbon, Paris, and Athens, notes Bild. More than 182,000 readers of the magazine participated in the voting. They evaluated the culture, cuisine, and hospitality in the cities.
Valletta scored 97.33 points out of a possible 100, thus becoming the best tourist destination both in Europe and in the world.
"This recognition reflects the deep appreciation of travelers for our cultural heritage and the hospitality of the Maltese people," commented the country's Minister of Tourism, Yan Borg, on the achievement.
The publication noted that the Maltese capital, covering less than one square kilometer, is a true museum, featuring palaces, ancient fortress walls, churches, and narrow streets.
Valletta was founded by the Knights of the Order of St. John in the 16th century and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List for 45 years.
