Not all products become dangerous immediately after the date indicated on the packaging. British entrepreneur Dan Cluderi proved this in practice — he makes millions selling quality products past their "expiration date" that are still safe.
Journalist Joanna Blightman compiled a list of such products:
- Milk. Pasteurized milk can be stored for several days after the expiration date if kept deep in the refrigerator. Sour milk is great for baking.
- Eggs. Safe for up to 35 days at a temperature no higher than +5 °C.
- Jam, honey, jelly. Sugar is a natural preservative, so they do not spoil even after months.
- Sauerkraut. German or Korean varieties can be stored for a long time due to fermentation.
- Chips and crackers. They become soft but are safe; they can be dried in the oven.
- Pasta. Dry products do not spoil if the packaging remains sealed.
- Bread. Can be stored for a long time in the refrigerator, as long as mold is removed.
- Canned goods. They can last for years in a cool, dark place.
- Chocolate. The white coating is not mold but fat that has come to the surface; the product remains suitable for consumption.
The main rule is to inspect, smell, and taste with caution. If the product looks and smells normal, it is likely safe.
