Passionate love is considered a vivid and significant experience; however, its actual prevalence has not been sufficiently studied. Specialists from the Kinsey Institute in the U.S. have presented quantitative data on this topic for the first time. This is reported by News.iu.

The study involved more than 10,000 single adults aged 18 to 99. Respondents were asked to recall how many times in their lives they had experienced completely overwhelming love. On average, participants reported two such episodes. Meanwhile, 14 percent stated that they had never felt such emotions, 28 percent — once, 30 percent — twice, 17 percent — three times, and 11 percent — four times or more.

Comparing groups revealed only minor differences. Older participants reported experiencing intense love slightly more often, confirming the possibility of such experiences at any age. Men, on average, noted a few more instances than women, but the gap was minimal. Data were collected through direct individual interviews, which allowed a focus on the intensity of feelings rather than the number of relationships.

The authors concluded that intense love is not a common phenomenon and is a relatively rare experience. They believe that understanding the actual frequency of such states is important for psychologists and therapists, as it helps adjust clients' expectations and emphasizes the value of different forms of emotional closeness.
