The new film proposes a version about two creators of Bitcoin. Who are they?

The documentary Finding Satoshi has been released, in which the authors suggest that the creation of Bitcoin under the pseudonym Satoshi Nakamoto could have been the work of two people — Hal Finney and Len Sassaman.

One coin for two

Finney has long been considered one of the most likely candidates. In the new version, he is assigned the role of developer, while Sassaman may have been responsible for the texts and concept (white paper). Both were part of the cryptographic community of cypherpunks and worked with privacy and digital money technologies, from which Bitcoin ultimately emerged.

The theory is based on an analysis of the early activity of the creator of Bitcoin, his digital footprints, and the biographies of the candidates. In particular, certain inconsistencies, when messages from Satoshi appeared at times when Finney could not have been at his computer, are explained in the film as working in tandem.

You can't take crypto to the afterlife

The creator of Bitcoin disappeared from the public space in 2011, shortly before Sassaman's death. Both have since passed away, which, according to the authors, may explain why the large reserves of Bitcoin associated with Satoshi remain untouched.

The authors emphasize that this is one of the versions, but they consider it the most plausible among those existing.

Earlier this month, The New York Times published a detailed investigation suggesting that the creator of the first cryptocurrency could have been British cryptographer and co-founder of Blockstream Adam Back.
