Ford Automation Failure: Robots 'Forgot' Important Details on Thousands of Chassis

Ford announces a massive recall of 4,351 commercial chassis F-53 and F-59 due to a critical manufacturing defect – the absence of spindle nuts and cotter pins.

Automaker Ford has initiated a massive recall of 4,351 commercial chassis models F-53 and F-59, produced in 2025–2026 for the American market. The reason is a serious manufacturing oversight: missing spindle nuts and front axle cotter pins were found on a number of vehicles. This defect affected vehicles manufactured between June 27 and December 18, 2025.

The oversight came to light after warranty claims were received, when owners discovered the absence of important hub fastening elements. A thorough investigation revealed that the root of the problem lies in a failure of the automated equipment responsible for installing the spindle nuts. Following the discovery of this critical fault, production temporarily reverted to a manual assembly method.

The absence of a spindle nut and cotter pin directly undermines the reliability of the wheel fastening, creating a potentially dangerous situation. In the worst-case scenario, this could lead to extremely serious consequences while driving, including a complete loss of control over the vehicle. This situation is particularly critical for the F-53 and F-59 models, as they serve as the basis for motorhomes and commercial vehicles operating under increased loads.

Ford dealerships have been instructed to conduct mandatory inspections of the front hubs on all affected vehicles. If missing elements are identified, they will be installed completely free of charge for the owners. Notifications will begin to be sent to recipients by the end of September 2026, but vehicle owners can already check their vehicle by VIN number through official services.

This incident with the F-53 and F-59 models clearly demonstrates how even a minor manufacturing error can lead to extremely serious risks. For commercial vehicles, such defects acquire particular criticality, underscoring that strict quality control remains an absolutely key aspect of the modern automotive industry.
