At Northumbria University, mayonnaise has been recognized as a musical instrument.

British scientists have officially recognized mayonnaise as a musical instrument. This is reported by the New York Post.

A study from Northumbria University confirmed that mayonnaise meets the scientific criteria for classifying musical instruments due to its acoustic properties.

Researchers determined that the consistency and physical characteristics of the product make it suitable for producing sounds of varying pitch and tonality. "The sounds it produces are not random—they are determined by its structure as an emulsion," the study notes.

Furthermore, the researchers found that the speed and intensity of the impact on the mayonnaise directly affect the nature of the sound. Slow, smooth movements create low, bass tones, while sharp and quick movements produce high, piercing sounds. Mayonnaise in a jar, bottle, and mayonnaise outside of a container sound different.

According to the scientists, the difference between an ordinary object and a musical instrument lies in how and for what purpose they are used. When mayonnaise is purposefully used to create sounds, it ceases to be a condiment.
