TWZ: The US Navy conducted a railgun test.
The United States Navy (USN) conducted at least one new round of railgun tests at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. This was reported by TWZ.
The tests lasted three days and took place in February 2025, but this information has only now come to light following the publication of a report by the Naval Surface Warfare Center. The document notes that the tests provided valuable information about the railgun.
The publication reminds that the US Navy abandoned the development of the railgun in the early 2020s. TWZ speculates that this product or its derivative may be acquired by the prospective battleship of the Trump type.
In June 2021, the publication reported that after 16 years of development, the US Navy planned to abandon the railgun.
At that time, TWZ noted that as of 2017, during ground tests, the railgun was capable of launching projectiles that accelerated to speeds exceeding six times the speed of sound. It was planned that the munitions would be able to hit targets in the air and at sea at a range of about 260 kilometers, but over time, "the status of this program and any results it might have achieved became increasingly unclear."
