China will accelerate the development of a project to control the movement of typhoons worldwide.

China plans to accelerate the development of the "Zhurui" project for creating a space solar power station that could also be used to control the movement of typhoons. This was reported by the South China Morning Post.

To achieve this goal, a structure weighing more than the International Space Station will need to be placed in Earth orbit. Tests of the power station are scheduled for 2030.

A station capable of generating several gigawatts of electricity will be established in geostationary orbit. The main task of the station will be power supply. However, scientists from Xi'an University have suggested that microwave energy transmission technology could theoretically be used to heat moisture in the atmosphere within typhoons. With sufficient power, it would be possible to divert typhoons away from populated areas.

The station will be able to provide wireless recharging for satellites, future space stations, and probes, which will extend their lifespan and expand the capabilities of research programs, including the creation of lunar bases.
