The American fifth-generation fighter F-35 has for the first time in history shot down an enemy manned aircraft. The target was a Yak-130 of Russian manufacture, the Israeli army reports.
"An Iranian aircraft has been shot down. An F-35I fighter jet of the Israeli Air Force shot down an Yak-130 fighter jet of the Iranian Air Force," the Israeli army reported.
It is noted that this incident marks the first time in history that a manned aircraft has been shot down by an F-35 fighter.
What is known about the Yak-130. The Yak-130 is a training-combat aircraft developed by the Yakovlev Design Bureau to replace the L-39 training aircraft in the Russian Air Force.
The aircraft's tasks include training cadets of flight schools. Its armament includes UPK-23-250 gun pods with 23 mm caliber guns and a total of 250 rounds in each. Additionally, it can carry guided air-to-surface missiles such as the Kh-31, as well as guided and unguided bombs.
Details about the F-35. The F-35 is a multirole fifth-generation fighter developed by the American company Lockheed Martin.
The F-35 has a wide range of armaments. Among them are air-to-air missiles AIM-9 Sidewinder, AIM-132 ASRAAM, and AIM-120 AMRAAM, as well as cruise missiles Storm Shadow and AGM-158 JASSM.
Also included in its arsenal are JDAM guided bombs weighing up to 910 kg, WCMD cluster bombs, AGM-154 Joint Standoff Weapon guided bombs, and Brimstone anti-tank missiles.
