IDC: smartphone market will collapse in 2026 by 13% due to memory crisis.
In 2026, the global smartphone market will experience the most significant decline in history. This is stated in a report by International Data Corporation (IDC).
Analysts predicted that in 2026, the volume of smartphone shipments worldwide will decrease by 12.9 percent year-on-year, totaling 1.1 billion units. "We are witnessing not a temporary reduction, but a tsunami-like shock originating in the memory supply chain, with a ripple effect spreading throughout the consumer electronics industry," described the situation representative Francisco Jeronimo.
IDC specialists emphasized that the market will decline due to a memory crisis caused by high component prices. According to Senior Research Director Nabila Popal, the memory crisis will not just cause a temporary downturn; it will signify a structural reorganization of the entire market.
Manufacturers of low-cost smartphones will be hit the hardest. The rising cost of components will inevitably lead to a sharp increase in gadget prices. The situation will be much better for manufacturers of premium devices.
