The founder of Yandex renounced his Russian citizenship

The founder of Yandex, Arkady Volozh, has renounced his Russian citizenship.

The founder of Yandex, Arkady Volozh, has renounced his citizenship of the Russian Federation. This information was confirmed to Bloomberg by an unnamed source close to the businessman.

Volozh holds Israeli citizenship and has been living in that country for over ten years.

In June 2022, Volozh was placed under European sanctions. Shortly after that, he left his executive positions at Yandex and its subsidiaries. In August 2023, the businessman publicly condemned the Russian invasion of Ukraine for the first time. Six months later, the sanctions against him were lifted.

Since the beginning of the large-scale Russian-Ukrainian war, a number of prominent businessmen have renounced their Russian citizenship. Among them are Oleg Tinkov, former owner of Mail.ru Group Yuri Milner, and founder of Revolut Nikolai Storonsky.
