A drone flew towards the only French aircraft carrier: Russia is suspected of foul play

The General Staff of the French Armed Forces provided details about the incident involving an unknown drone that approached the French nuclear aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle," docked in the port of Malmö.

According to French military sources, on Wednesday, February 25, Swedish armed forces detected and neutralized a drone that was heading towards the aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle."

The drone was intercepted approximately 10 kilometers from the port, French media reports.

At this time, it is impossible to confidently confirm the origin of the drone, its intentions, or even whether it was directed at the aircraft carrier, this source notes.

However, the Swedish minister has his own particular opinion. Swedish Defense Minister Paul Jonsson stated that the drone, which approached the French nuclear aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle" in the port of Malmö, likely belonged to Russia.

"It is likely that there was a violation of Swedish airspace by the drone. This occurred in connection with the presence of a Russian military ship in the Øresund. According to all data, there is a strong connection between the Russian military ship and this drone," the defense minister stated.

The nuclear aircraft carrier "Charles de Gaulle," which is in service with France, has been docked in the Swedish city of Malmö for several days as part of NATO military exercises Orion-26.
