The Norwegian four-wheeled electric bicycle Frikar has found a second life under the name TwoZero Classic after the bankruptcy of its developer Podbike. The project has not only been revived but is currently running a Kickstarter campaign to raise funds for a limited series of 180 units. As the new owners of the project explain, the key problem of the former company was an unsustainable economic model: the production cost of one bicycle exceeded 9000 euros while the selling price was 6500 euros.
Currently, one can become the owner of a TwoZero Classic by supporting the Kickstarter campaign with a sum of 8172 dollars. However, the battery and charger are purchased separately, and shipping from Norway will also need to be paid. The first 20 units will be shipped in March, with the rest following in June.
However, Classic is just the first chapter in the story of the TwoZero brand. According to the company's founder, a unified chassis is planned to be presented in 2027, based on which about a dozen new models will be developed. Five of these, scheduled for next year, will remain in the EPAC category (electric bicycles with pedal assistance) or regular bicycles. These will be single-seat vehicles with a width of less than 85 cm. The other ten models, set to be released in 2028, will transition to the class of mopeds and light motorcycles. These will be two-seat vehicles with a throttle, capable of reaching speeds of up to 80 km/h, for which a license and registration will be required.
All 15 models are planned to be produced in several versions: Pickup, Sport, SUV, and Cargo. The estimated price for the Sport and SUV versions in the EPAC category will be around 7500 and 8500 euros, respectively. Currently, Phase Energy is negotiating with investors and hopes to complete the funding for the TwoZero project by May 2026.
