ChatGPT helped a Spaniard train a Russian football club

The Spaniard Moreno coached Sochi with the help of ChatGPT.

ChatGPT assisted Spaniard Roberto Moreno in coaching the Russian football club Sochi. This was revealed in an interview with the media by the former deputy general director of the team, Andrey Orlov.

According to Orlov, at first, Moreno appeared to the staff and management of Sochi as a great professional. However, the Spaniard then attempted to pull the team out of a crisis with the help of ChatGPT.

Before an away match in the First League against SKA Khabarovsk, Moreno built a training plan using the chatbot. According to its recommendations, the Sochi players were to stay awake for 28 consecutive hours. "I asked, 'Robert, everything is great, but when will the guys sleep?' Moreno entered new parameters, and the presentation was updated. In the end, we followed the schedule built by ChatGPT," Orlov recalled.

Additionally, Orlov shared how the head coach used the chatbot to decide which player to sign a contract with. ChatGPT advised choosing Kazakhstani Arthur Shushenachev, who subsequently did not succeed in the team.

Moreno led Sochi from December 2023 to August 2025. Under his leadership, the team initially left the Russian Premier League but then returned to the top division. After the start of the current season, Sochi, which was in last place in the standings, terminated the coach's contract.
