Four astronauts returned early from the International Space Station (ISS) due to the deteriorating health of one crew member, LETA reports citing AFP.
This is the first case in the history of the ISS where a crew returned to Earth early due to the illness of one of the astronauts.
The capsule with American astronauts Zena Cardman and Michael Fincke, Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata, and Russian cosmonaut Oleg Platonov landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of San Diego. They spent five months on the ISS.
The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) did not disclose the identity of the ill crew member or the nature of the medical issue but clarified that it was not related to duties on the station and was not an emergency. NASA's chief health and medical officer, James Polk, described the astronaut's condition as stable.
