Chinese company EngineAI has raised over 1 billion yuan (€121,276,400) in investments to launch the mass production of its latest robot. Its name, T800, is a clear reference to "The Terminator."

The CEO of EngineAI, Zhao Tongyan, personally acted as a sparring partner to demonstrate the T800's kung fu skills. The company also had to publish materials from the robot's test recordings, as many perceived the final video showcasing its abilities as AI-generated. The robot is indeed quite effective — in particular, the Intel N97 processor combined with the NVIDIA AGX Orin module provides it with a computing power of 275 TOPS.

The robot's body has 29 degrees of freedom, each arm has an additional 7, and all movable joints deliver up to 450 N⋅m of torque. The T800 stands 173 cm tall and weighs 75 kg including the battery, making it resemble many Chinese athletes. It also features a special cooling system for the joint mechanisms, designed for prolonged operation.

In practice, the T800 can operate for up to 4 hours on a single battery charge. However, the battery can be easily replaced thanks to its modular design. Another downside is the robot's payload capacity of only 5 kg, which raises questions about its ability to work in industrial settings. The commercial sector needs simple and inexpensive machines that can perform repetitive tasks for many hours, and kung fu skills in a warehouse or workshop are unlikely to find proper application.
