Astronomers Discover a 'Rogue Planet' the Size of Saturn in the Center of the Milky Way

Astronomers have discovered a 'rogue planet' the size of Saturn in the center of the Milky Way.

Astronomers have discovered a 'rogue planet' the size of Saturn in the center of the Milky Way. This is reported in a scientific article in the journal Science.

It is specified that it is located 9,900 light-years away from Earth and is situated in the constellation Sagittarius. Its discovery confirmed that large planets can be ejected from their parent star systems in very rare cases.

The discovery was made by a group of astronomers led by the director of the University of Warsaw Observatory (Poland), Andrzej Udalski, as part of the OGLE project — within which scientists were searching for gravitational microlenses created by nearby and invisible objects. It is emphasized that astronomers discovered several extremely dim and cold celestial bodies, often referred to as 'rogue planets.'
