Magnetic Storm on New Year's Eve: What Meteorologically Sensitive People Should Prepare For

The New Year may "delight" meteorologically sensitive people with a magnetic storm. The influence of solar activity, according to various forecasts, will be felt on December 31 or January 1.

The year 2026 may begin with a geomagnetic storm. NOAA's forecast models predict a glancing blow from a CME (coronal mass ejection) on January 1. This was warned by Spaceweather on December 30.

"If the impact does occur, it could trigger a G1-class storm with auroras around the North Pole," analysts noted.

As is known, G1 is considered a minor storm, with a Kp index of only 5. A magnetic storm of this level can affect migrating animals, and polar auroras are often observed at high latitudes.

According to another forecast from Solen.info, a magnetic storm of minor intensity is expected from December 31 to January 2. At the same time, analysts noted that from December 31 to January 1, Earth may be exposed to the CME ejected by the Sun on December 28.

As previously reported by Focus, some people are particularly sensitive to magnetic storms and may experience headaches, weakness, drowsiness, irritability, concentration difficulties, anxiety, apathy, changes in blood pressure, and arrhythmia during periods of high solar activity.

To protect oneself from feeling unwell, it is recommended to:

  • measure blood pressure and not skip prescribed medications;
  • drink more water, avoid "heavy" foods, coffee, and alcohol;
  • get enough sleep and rest, and not overload oneself.

Breathing exercises, meditation, or yoga, and warm baths with soothing herbs (chamomile, lavender) may also help.
