The release of PlayStation and Xbox consoles will be postponed due to high memory prices.
Manufacturers of gaming devices may postpone the release of the new generation of consoles. This is reported by Insider Gaming.
Media author Tom Henderson stated that Sony, Microsoft, and other manufacturers are considering delaying the launch of the next-generation consoles. The main reason for the delay, according to the authoritative insider, is the high prices of RAM due to the boom in artificial intelligence (AI).
According to Henderson's sources, he first learned that the announcement of the PlayStation and Xbox next generation would be delayed on December 19. The specialist found out that company executives are seriously discussing the possibility of postponing the release of the consoles to avoid suffering from equipment shortages. "According to the information available, the entire industry is concerned about the availability of RAM (and rightly so) and how this will affect the mass production of consoles at a competitive price," noted the insider.
The article states that the PS5 and Xbox Series were not bringing manufacturers excessive profits. According to Henderson, the production of consoles has always been "subsidized to some extent" — for example, through the sale of games and other accessories. Due to the crisis, the new consoles may appear later than originally planned — the consoles were initially expected to be updated in 2027 or 2028.
"Regardless of what happens, it seems that in the next couple of years, prices for the current generation of consoles may rise even further," concluded Henderson.
