In his estimation, within the next five years, the impact of automation will be felt by almost all categories of workers.

Yoshua Bengio (61), a professor of computer science at the University of Montreal and one of the so-called "godfathers of AI," stated that the development of artificial intelligence will inevitably lead to the replacement of most professions. According to him, the question is not whether this will happen, but only when the technologies will be implemented in real processes.

Speaking on the podcast Diary of a CEO, Bengio noted that the first to be affected by automation will be representatives of "cognitive professions" who work on computers. Such tasks are the easiest to transfer to algorithms. However, in the long run, AI will also impact the field of physical labor - simply, this process will take more time.

The scientist emphasized that companies will need years for the full integration of AI into work processes, but they are already actively moving in this direction. In his estimation, within the next five years, the impact of automation will be felt by almost all categories of workers, including those engaged in manual labor.

Bengio identified young professionals just entering the job market as particularly vulnerable. Entry-level positions, in his opinion, are the easiest to replace, and it is the Zoomers who will face the greatest difficulties at the beginning of their careers.

In response to a question about whether AI could ultimately take all jobs from people, Bengio pointed to the rise of robotization and the volume of data being collected. He stated that as information accumulates and systems improve, automation will only accelerate.

The professor also admitted that he looks back on the work of his life with regret.

A turning point for him was the release of ChatGPT, after which he realized that he could not confidently envision what life would be like for his grandchildren in 20 years. In 2025, Bengio launched a non-profit organization, LawZero, which focuses on developing and promoting human-safe AI systems.
