Macworld: Apple will release an expensive iPhone Fold but must lower smartphone prices.
Journalists from the specialized publication Macworld called the iPhone 17e Apple's last chance to release an affordable smartphone. The article was published on the media's website.
Experts stated that the iPhone 16e, released earlier this year, did not turn out to be an affordable phone, despite the manufacturer's positioning. They reminded that in 2026, Apple might introduce its most expensive smartphone and urged the company not to forget about the broad audience and to prepare at least one affordable device.
The editors of the media stated that the main problem with the "cheap" iPhone 16e is that it "takes too much and gives too little." They pointed out that a compromise device in every sense should not cost $599, or about 47,000 rubles. Against this backdrop, the authors expect that its predecessor, the iPhone 17e, should be released at a lower price.
"The iPhone 16e smartphone is currently the only entry point for Apple into the vast and profitable budget market," the journalists lamented. In conclusion, the authors of the note warned Tim Cook's company that users of cheap phones might become disappointed with Apple and switch from iPhone to Google Pixel 9a or Samsung Galaxy A17 5G — much more affordable smartphones.
At the end of December, journalists from Macworld named the Mac Pro computer and Liquid Glass design the main failures of Apple in 2025.
