ZDNet: A function called Advanced Protection has been found in Android that protects smartphones.
The Android operating system (OS) has a secret security feature that is disabled by default. This is reported by ZDNet.
The media journalists stated that Advanced Protection — a feature of enhanced security — appeared in the OS with the release of Android 16. This is a special operating mode in which the most reliable security and privacy features from Google are activated. Experts noted that it is disabled by default, making it essentially a secret for most smartphone users.
The article states that Advanced Protection encompasses six types of smartphone security protocols. For instance, in the event of device theft, a lock mode is triggered, the device restarts when idle, the phone does not connect to suspicious 2G networks, and incoming calls undergo automatic filtering. Additionally, in this mode, browsers block phishing and malicious websites, and Chrome enables the https protocol wherever possible.
Moreover, the Google Play Protect feature is active — the OS constantly analyzes app behavior. The system also checks incoming SMS messages and prevents users from clicking on suspicious links within them.
ZDNet authors explained that Advanced Protection can be enabled in the smartphone settings by navigating to the "Security and Privacy" section. The feature works on Android 16.
