The threat of cyber incidents in Latvia has risen to an unprecedented high this year, said Baiba Kashkina, head of the IT security incident prevention institution "Cert.lv," during the "Morning Panorama" program on Latvian television.
"The threat level is the highest we have ever observed," noted Kashkina, referring to data from the first 11 months of this year.
According to her, the increase in threat levels is primarily due to various fraudulent campaigns.
The head of "Cert.lv" reported that the activity of cyber threats has not been uniform throughout the year - there have been periods of heightened activity and more calm periods. Overall, the number of cyber threats this year is approximately 13% higher than last year, while the number of fraud cases has increased by 30-35%.
Kashkina predicts that no significant changes in the level of cyber threats are expected in the near future, as people's wealth is gradually increasing, which is of interest to cybercriminals.
"Therefore, the only thing that can save us is education and critical thinking," emphasized the head of "Cert.lv."
