PCMag: Windows 12 will be released in 2027 — the release is related to the support of Windows 11.
Microsoft is expected to release the next generation of Windows no later than 2027. This is reported by PCMag.
Tech analyst Michael Machmayer examined rumors and insider information regarding the future of Microsoft operating systems (OS). The expert predicted that the company would launch Windows 12 in 2027. His colleague from ZDNet, Ed Bott, agreed — the senior editor believes the release will take place in October.
Machmayer reminded that Windows 10 was released in 2015, while Windows 11 came out in 2021. The journalist believes that the end of support for the latest update of Windows 11 — update 25H2, which will be considered outdated in October 2027 — indirectly indicates the year of Windows 12's release. "Windows updates are released in the fall of each year. This season is likely to be the time for the next major update," noted the author.
Michael Machmayer and Ed Bott suggested that a personal computer with a neural processing unit (NPU) would be required to run Windows 12. This is because the new OS will be even more integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) services than the current system. It is also likely that Microsoft will introduce more paid features.
