SpaceX valued itself at $800 billion and became the most expensive private company in the world again

Of all the impressive array of companies owned by Elon Musk, only Tesla is public, yet it accounts for the majority of the wealth of the richest person on the planet.

The aerospace startup SpaceX was considered the most valuable in history before the emergence of OpenAI, and it is not yet ready to part with this status, estimating its capitalization at $800 billion.

According to CNBC, citing The Wall Street Journal, SpaceX is currently preparing for a secondary stock offering based on this valuation. At the same time, representatives of the startup are informing some investors about plans to go public by the end of next year.

It is worth noting that OpenAI's capitalization is currently estimated at $500 billion, and although the companies are not direct competitors, Musk's personal rivalry with AI startup leader Sam Altman surely motivates him to stay at least one step ahead in terms of the financial scale of the business.

It became known recently that Altman was interested in purchasing the aerospace startup Stoke Space, although the deal ultimately did not materialize. Additionally, it is reported that SpaceX's IPO will simultaneously mean the public listing of its subsidiary Starlink, which has become one of the leaders in providing internet access services through a constellation of low-orbit satellites.

Speaking at a Tesla shareholders' meeting in early November, Musk admitted that he does not like managing public companies, as they attract many frivolous lawsuits, making effective business management very difficult.

Nevertheless, the idea of taking SpaceX public is indeed being considered by Musk, who would like to give Tesla shareholders the opportunity to participate in this IPO.
