In Russia, hundreds of Porsches suddenly turned into 'bricks'

Hundreds of Porsches across Russia have been immobilized due to a mass failure, which dealers attribute to communication issues or malfunctions in the factory alarm system, Russian media report.

According to the source, the cars of drivers from Moscow, Krasnodar, and other cities simply won't start, effectively turning into 'bricks'.

The problem is caused by a failure of the VTS (Vehicle Tracking System) — this is the factory satellite alarm system of Porsche that blocks the car's ignition. The reason for this is unknown. The owners themselves speculate that the failure may be caused by the operation of electronic warfare means.

The failure is observed in all Porsche models since 2013 that are equipped with VTS.

Russians have already come up with a way to solve the problem – it is necessary to disconnect the battery for 6–10 hours by removing the negative terminal from the battery. Then, reconnect the terminal and turn the key. But as soon as the car is turned off, it will again go into protective mode, and this procedure will have to be done again.

Therefore, many owners simply remove the VTS unit to solve the problem once and for all. This can be done at specialized service centers. The cost of the procedure is about 500 euros.
