Windows Learned to Download Viruses on Its Own

Windows Central: Windows turned out to be capable of downloading viruses from the internet.

The Windows 11 operating system (OS) with artificial intelligence (AI) support can download malware on its own. This was reported by Windows Central.

Previously, Microsoft introduced an update to its OS, adding AI agents capable of analyzing user needs and solving tasks in the background. Later, company specialists warned users that the operation of AI agents is associated with risks: there is a possibility that an advanced neural network could download and install malicious software.

This concerns experimental features of the agents, which are disabled by default. Once activated, the agents gain more permissions to interact with data and files on the computer. Thus, Microsoft has taught the OS to create user accounts independently and download necessary programs for work, which may include viruses.

"AI applications create additional security risks when malicious content embedded in user interface elements or documents can reconfigure instructions for the agents," Microsoft stated. The company advised activating agent mode only for advanced users and taking on all associated risks. New features of Windows 11 will be available in early 2026.

At the end of November, Microsoft acknowledged a mistake related to paid updates for Windows 10. It was previously revealed that users of the first updates were unable to install them due to issues.
