WhatsApp is testing a feature that limits the number of unanswered messages – this is how the messenger intends to fight spammers.
The counter will reset every month, but the specific limit has not yet been specified. If it is exceeded, strangers will not be able to send messages until someone from them responds in previous conversations.
As TechCrunch reports, the company notes that ordinary users are unlikely to notice the restrictions. The innovation is primarily aimed at those who send messages and spam en masse. As users approach the limit, the messenger will notify them about it.
Testing of the new message limit system will be launched in several countries in the coming weeks. This update will complement other WhatsApp measures to combat spam – among them, the ability to unsubscribe from marketing mailings and block spam directly from the device's lock screen.
