Latvian 3x3 Basketball Players Become World Champions for the First Time

The Latvian men's 3x3 basketball team, consisting of Nauris Miezis, Karlis Lasmanis, Francis Lacis, and Zigmar Raimo, won the gold medals at the World Championship for the first time in history on Sunday in Warsaw.

In the final, the Latvian team, seeded seventh, defeated Germany (the sixth seed) with a score of 20:15.

In the semifinals, Latvia won against Serbia (the first seed) in overtime with a score of 20:19, while Germany defeated France (the fifth seed) 19:18.

The Latvian women's 3x3 basketball team was eliminated from the tournament on Friday, losing in the Round of 16.

The World Championship in the Polish capital, Warsaw, concluded on Sunday. Twenty teams participated in both the men's and women's tournaments.

This was the Latvian men's team’s sixth consecutive appearance at the World Championship. Previously, the team won silver in 2019 and bronze in 2023.
