Latvian tennis player Anastasija Sevastova announced her retirement.
“It’s never easy to say goodbye to what you truly love, but after careful consideration, I have made my decision. It’s time to say goodbye to professional tennis,” Sevastova wrote on Instagram.
She explained: “Looking back on all these years (actually decades), I feel nothing but gratitude. It has been an honor for me to share my life on tour with amazing players, coaches, physiotherapists, sponsors, and of course, wonderful fans.”
Sevastova compares her tennis career to a rollercoaster, as there have been both ups and downs, and she has faced both joy and challenges.
“Nevertheless, I am proud of everything I have achieved, and I value even more the relationships and friendships I have been able to build with so many outstanding people. And finally, a few words to my family and loved ones — know that my deepest gratitude and endless love are always with you,” wrote the 36-year-old tennis player.
At the time of her retirement, she ranked 195th in the WTA rankings.
