Roberto Mancini, who holds the position of head coach at Qatar's Al-Sadd, is ready to return to the Italian national team, which he led from 2018 to 2023.
Journalist Rudy Galetti reports this.
Mancini has been working at Al-Sadd since 2023. The club's owners offered the specialist favorable conditions — the Italian's salary is £25 million per year. Terminating the contract with the team will not be a problem.
It was previously reported that two other candidates are vying for the position of coach of the Italian national team: AC Milan's head coach Massimiliano Allegri and Napoli's head coach Antonio Conte.
The Italian national team lost to Bosnia and Herzegovina (1:1, 1:4 on penalties) in the final qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup. After that, the head coach of the national team, Gennaro Gattuso, the head of the Italian Football Federation Gabriele Gravina, and the head of the national team delegation Gianluigi Buffon left their positions.
