Latvian national team forward Eduards Tralmaks was called up to the National Hockey League (NHL) club Detroit Red Wings for the first time in his career on Wednesday, LETA reports.

According to the "Red Wings," along with the Latvian forward from the team's farm club in the American Hockey League (AHL) Grand Rapids Griffins, Sheldon Dries and John Leonard have also been called up.

Several forwards on the Detroit team have been injured, prompting the call-up from the AHL.

In the "Red Wings," captain Dylan Larkin, Andrew Copp, and Nate Danielson are injured.

This season, Tralmaks has scored 28 points (18+10) in 49 games with the Griffins, who are the leaders in the AHL, making him the sixth highest scorer on the team and the fourth top scorer.

The Latvian forward has a two-way contract with the "Red Wings" for this season.

The "Red Wings" are in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 79 points in 65 games, sitting three points above the playoff zone. The next game for the Detroit team will be on Friday night Latvian time — away against the Tampa Bay Lightning, for which Zemgus Girgensons plays.
