The Iranian national football team may be allowed to come to the U.S. to participate in the 2026 World Cup, despite the ongoing conflict.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino reported this.
According to him, he met with U.S. President Donald Trump to discuss the preparations for the tournament and received assurances from the American leader that the Iranian team would be allowed to come to the U.S.
"We also discussed the current situation in Iran and the fact that the Iranian team has qualified for the FIFA World Cup 2026. During the discussions, President Trump confirmed that the Iranian team can certainly participate in the tournament in the United States," said Infantino.
Iran is set to play in Inglewood, California, against New Zealand on June 15. The team is scheduled to face Belgium on June 21. The group stage will conclude for the Iranians with a match against Egypt in Seattle on June 26.
The U.S. is hosting the tournament along with Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19. Earlier, Iranian officials expressed concerns that their country's participation was in question due to the ongoing situation. The Trump administration had announced that fans from Iran were banned from entering the U.S.
